Trusting the Gold: Uncovering Your Natural Goodness by Tara Brach
I purchased Trusting the Gold at The Shade Tree, a wonderful independent bookstore in Minocqua, Wis. For months, it sat on my bookshelf, ignored.
I bought the book on impulse last spring. I had been looking for a book of Christian devotions and was drawn to its inviting cover. I reached for it, slid my fingers across the book jacket, and felt a compelling connection to it. Once I opened it at home, I discovered that it is not a Christian book; it is more inclusive than that. It is packed with wisdom told in segments of two to three pages. The writing is tight, an example of precision of language. Illustrated by Vicky Alvarez, images add to the beauty of the book.
While Trusting the Gold sat on my shelf, I wasn’t connecting to the Christian books that I had intentionally added to my collection. None of those devotional guides felt right. I needed a break from reading scripture reflections. So, out of desperation for some narrative inspiration for my meditative morning ritual, I turned back to Brach’s inviting book. Brack holds a PhD in psychology and has been practicing and teaching meditation since 1975. I trust the author and her expertise.
I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about healing practices, which can be gleaned from within. I found resonating truths in this book from the first few pages, and it gets stronger from there. Brach’s wisdom heals the soul. I am enjoying a slow, contemplative read of this collection.
Peace,
Tara
