Get Kiddos Reading with The House on Hemlock Hill by Brittni Nelson

Let’s get people reading again! Starting with our children. Fresh Water Press is entering the children’s literature market with its release of The House on Hemlock Hill by middle-school art teacher Brittni Nelson. This middle-grade mystery is geared toward children ages 10-12 and has illustrations by the author sprinkled in.

We invite all to celebrate the work Brittni has does to promote literacy and the arts at her book launch party—a casual event co-hosted by Uncorked Book Lounge in downtown Two Rivers, Wis. from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. Here you can mingle with the author and pick up a signed copy of the perfect back-to-school gift for the children and teachers in your life. Spend the evening browsing this welcoming bookstore with a glass of wine (other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks also available for purchase). This event is perfect for book lovers, teachers, parents, and grandparents. This is an evening to relax and congratulate Brittni on her work.

Kids will have a chance to celebrate too at the family-friendly book launch party at Chilton Library from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5. Your kids will love Brittni; she’s a charismatic teacher who knows how to engage with a young audience. This is their opportunity to meet a real-life author, get their book signed, and learn about what it’s like to write and illustrate a book.

The Chilton Public Library also is committed to bringing literature to our Spanish-speaking rural neighbors and is hosting an outreach event on August 7.

Amid the preparations for The House on Hemlock Hill’s launch, Brittni has been active promoting children’s literacy with her picture books, Papa’s Cottage and Grammy’s Quilts.

She has visited schools and libraries all over eastern Wisconsin to read the books and create art with students. She also taught a watercolor painting event for adults at a winery, took part in a discussion with fellow authors/illustrators led by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) of Wisconsin, and spoke about her books at the Chilton Optimist Club.

Brittni, thank you for what you do to promote children’s literacy and art skills in your community!
